NICE clinical guideline 92

Reducing the risk of venous thromboembolism (deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism) in patients admitted to hospital

January 2010

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence published this update of previous guidelines setting out recommendations for the treatment and care of hospital patients in England and Wales. They follow the House of Commons Health Committee report in 2005 that an estimated 25000 people in the UK die from preventable hospital-acquired venous thromboembolism (VTE) every year.

The Quick Reference Guide is included here as a downloadable pdf file and below are the links to the NICE website and access to the full guidelines.
